Confirm SEO faults the same day, from the browser

A French page shows English copy, or enquiries from one market drop overnight. Each is quick to confirm on the page itself, and confirming it the same day keeps the enquiries coming.

Below are the ten Chrome extensions we keep installed for those moments, grouped by job, and the point where a site-wide check takes over.

The ten Chrome extensions for SEO at a glance

Every one has a free tier, so trying the set costs an afternoon.

On-page and technical checks

Most faults that affect a page's traffic are visible on the page itself. These five find them in seconds, straight from the browser.

SEO Minion

SEO Minion covers most on-page analysis for free. It shows meta tags, headings and other on-page elements, broken links, and nofollow, sponsored and UGC links, previews the search result, and checks hreflang, the check multilingual sites need most often.

67% of the 374,756 domains using hreflang that Ahrefs studied in 2023 had at least one hreflang issue.

Ahrefs SEO Toolbar

The Ahrefs SEO Toolbar flags missing or incorrect elements, robots.txt and meta robots settings, and Open Graph tags. The free version is useful on its own.

Detailed SEO Extension

The Detailed SEO Extension summarises any page in one click: title and meta description, heading structure, internal and external link counts, schema markup, and shortcuts to robots.txt and the sitemap. It is the fastest way to decide whether a page needs a closer look.

Web Developer

The Web Developer extension answers one question that matters to rankings: what does search see from the HTML alone, before any JavaScript runs? It also outlines headings, links and images and validates HTML and CSS.

Web Developer switches JavaScript off, so you see the page as search reads it from the HTML alone.

Redirect Path

Redirect Path shows every hop a URL takes, with the HTTP status code at each step. Spot chains and loops at a glance and cut them to a single hop, which keeps the page fast and passes link value in full. Our technical SEO audit checklist explains what to do with what it finds.

By default, Google's crawlers follow up to 10 redirect hops.

Size up a market's keywords and competitors

What a competitor ranks for, and what it earns them, is the core of SEO competitor analysis: it tells you whether a market is worth the budget before you commit it.

Keywords Everywhere

Keywords Everywhere puts keyword data beside Google results. Related keywords, long-tail ideas and difficulty scores are free; volume, cost per click and trends use paid credits.

MozBar

MozBar shows Page Authority and Domain Authority (with a free Moz account), on-page elements and follow versus nofollow links. Spam Score and deeper analysis need Moz Pro.

Similarweb

A broader market research tool, Similarweb shows you how a competitor gets its visitors: estimated traffic, traffic sources, top referring sites and audience interests for any domain. Treat the numbers as estimates and read them as trends.

Wappalyzer

Wappalyzer identifies the technology behind a site: CMS, ecommerce platform, analytics tools, JavaScript frameworks and server software. Handy for competitor research and audits.

Check that every tracking tag fires

Check that every tag fires, so each market shows its real strength in your conversion tracking and the next budget decision follows the right number.

Tag Assistant

Google's Tag Assistant checks that Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and Google Ads conversion tags fire correctly, with tagassistant.google.com for in-page debugging. It replaces the older Legacy and Companion extensions, so install this one. Checking the tags is the usual way to find SEO results that are stronger than the reports show.

Tags fire correctly Each market real strength Budget right number
Tag Assistant confirms the tags fire, so each market’s figures show its real strength when the budget is set.

Keep the set small and crawl for site-wide faults

Extensions answer questions about one page. For anything site-wide, a crawler and Search Console are still the source of truth, and the base of our technical SEO services. Keep the set small, since some read every page you visit, and respect each site's terms of service when pulling data.

One page extensions Whole site crawler and Search Console
Extensions confirm a fault on the page in front of you. When the same fault shows up on page after page, the crawler and Search Console take over.
