What a Google Analytics alternative should show you

Your analytics should tell you which market deserves the next budget: full European numbers, visitors who decline the consent banner accounted for, and reports everyone on the team can find their way around.

Below: five Google Analytics alternatives, what each costs to start, and which business each suits. Prices are each vendor’s published entry price when we checked on 26 September 2026, in the currency the vendor quotes; they change often, so confirm before you commit.

When a switch from GA4 is worth the effort

Switching takes effort, so first see what GA4 gets right for international marketing, then match the switch to a need you actually have:

  • Privacy: Google Analytics collects extensive user data, so check how it sits with regulations like GDPR and with your own standards.
  • Complexity: GA4, the only version left since Universal Analytics was switched off, is more than most teams need to see where visitors came from.
  • Performance: Google’s tracking script can slow your pages.
  • Data ownership: some businesses want full control over their analytics data.

A switch pays back when it answers one of these four needs, so start from the one your business actually has.

Start from the question your team needs answered

The right choice is made once: one migration, and reports you can compare from the first month. Start from the question your team most needs answered:

Data on own servers? Regulated industry? In-product behaviour? One simple screen? Matomo Piwik PRO Mixpanel Plausible or Fathom
Pick the tool from the question your team asks most. If a cleaner GA4 setup already answers it, keeping GA4 is the cheaper move.

Then check the shortlist against:

  1. Privacy: it complies with data protection rules in every market you sell to.
  2. Ease of use: the people who need the numbers can find them.
  3. Data ownership: you know where the data is stored.
  4. Cost: the price still works at high traffic volumes.
  5. Integration: it connects to the tools you already run.
  6. Specific needs: some alternatives do more for ecommerce or product analytics.
  7. Per-market reporting: every report splits by language and country, so each market shows on its own.

Keep GA4 or switch: decide in three steps

Google Analytics is still capable, and for many businesses a cleaner setup, with conversion tracking set per market, solves more than a switch:

  • Keep GA4 if a cleaner setup answers your team's questions.
  • Switch if privacy, simplicity or a specialised need is the real problem.

To choose:

  1. Write down the question your team most needs answered each month.
  2. Shortlist the tools whose "Best for" matches it in the table above.
  3. Test the fit with each one's free trial or demo.

The best analytics tool is the one you’ll actually use to decide where the next budget goes.
