Link Buying and Selling Platforms in 2026: An Honest Working List
I have been buying and selling links for 25 years. I know which platforms produce links that hold and which ones produce links that get penalised in the next core update.
This list is not theoretical. These are the platforms I have used or watched clients use, with the trade-offs I have observed. Some are excellent. Some are useful for specific niches. A few should never be used by anyone serious about long-term rankings.
Why site owners still sell placements
Quality content is expensive to produce. Editorial teams have payroll. Independent bloggers have hosting bills. Selling sponsored placements, niche edits, or branded content is one of the few ways content sites monetise without ad networks.
The platforms below exist because there is genuine commercial demand on both sides. Buyers want backlinks for SEO, brand visibility, or referral traffic. Publishers want revenue from their content investment. The platforms are the matchmakers.
Why buyers prefer marketplaces to manual outreach
Cold outreach has a 2 to 5 percent response rate on a good campaign. You send 100 emails to get 3 to 5 conversations and maybe 1 placement. Multiply that across the volume any agency or in-house SEO team needs, and the manual approach becomes untenable.
Marketplaces compress the discovery, negotiation, and placement steps into a few clicks. Pricing is upfront. The publisher has already agreed to placements in principle. The marketplace handles invoicing, escrow, and dispute resolution. It is not better SEO. It is just faster operations.
What SpamBrain changed and why cheap links stopped working
Until 2022, Google’s link spam detection was patchy. PBNs worked. Cheap directory links worked. Mass guest post networks worked. Google’s December 2022 link spam update changed all of that.
The new SpamBrain system uses machine learning to identify unnatural link patterns at scale. Cheap links no longer get penalties — they get nullified. The algorithm simply ignores them. From a buyer’s perspective, this is worse than a penalty. You pay for placements that have zero ranking impact.
How to evaluate a platform before you pay
The same checks apply across every marketplace. The platform name matters less than the underlying inventory.
- Look at the actual sites listed. Real domains with real organic traffic verified through Ahrefs or Semrush. Avoid sites with traffic graphs that look like a dropped barometer.
- Check editorial standards. Does the site post content other than sponsored placements? If 90 percent of recent posts are paid, Google’s algorithms have probably already discounted that domain.
- Verify the topical relevance. A general “lifestyle” or “tech tips” site that publishes in any niche on demand is a flag. Topical authority is what makes a link count.
- Avoid PBN red flags. Networks of sites with shared hosting IPs, similar template designs, and overlapping content patterns get caught together.
- Test the platform’s transparency. Reputable marketplaces share Domain Rating, organic traffic, referring domains, and recent placement examples. Anything that hides this is not worth your money.

Get in touchBottom line on link platforms in 2026
The link economy continues to operate. Marketplaces are bigger than ever. But the cost-benefit equation has shifted. Cheap links waste your budget. Expensive editorial placements still work. The middle ground is where most agencies waste client money.
